Lex Martin is one of my favourite authors so when I saw that she was releasing a new book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. Shameless didn’t disappoint. Everything that I love about Lex Martin was included in Shameless. Characters you fall in love with and can relate to, hilarious banter and chemistry that is so hot that it is off the charts. Lex’s, Dearest series is one of my favourite series that I’ve ever read, ever since Finding Dandelion, i’ve been left wondering what happened to that sexy tattoo artist Brady. And Brady lived up to his potential, he's tatted, he rides a harley and of course he’s tall, dark and… sexy? He looks like he belongs at a biker club, and thats exactly what Katherine thinks the first time she sees him. If you think Brady can’t get any sexier, just wait until he becomes the new father to his niece. He may look like a biker but on the inside he’s kind and caring and when he meets his niece, you can’t help but fall in love.
When I glance up, Brady brushes a wisp of hair out of the baby’s eyes and kisses her forehead, and I swear my ovaries throb. On one hand, Brady is gruff and rough around the edges, and on the other, there’s a tenderness about him that screams husband material.
After a tragic accident within his family, Brady must go to his brothers farm in Texas to sort out the chaos that has been left behind. When he gets there he finds out that he is now the new guardian of his niece. When he arrives at the farm he meets Katherine, he sees how she is with his niece Isabella and becomes overwhelmed. However when the decision has to be made, Brady rises to the occasion and raises his niece. There is no doubt that Brady is dedicated to his family and he puts them first. Brady goes through a lot in this story, regret and loss, to only name a few. However no matter how overwhelmed he is with everything following the accident, he is still attracted to Katherine.
Katherine is intelligent, supported and compassionate, not to mention she has that sexy librarian look that Brady loves. When they first meet, Brady is lusting after Katherine but as they spend more and more time together and he sees how she is with Isabella, his lust turns into admiration and respect. Brady’s feelings aren't unrequited, Katherine is just as attracted to Brady and watching him learn how to look after Isabella and taking full responsibility for her and the issues that have piled on top of each other at the drop of the hat has made Katherine fall for him. But the reason they met is the reason they won’t act on their feelings. Plus, Brady is planning on returning to Boston once his business in Texas is complete.
Katherine has her own issues, she's struggling to accept her past and work out what she’s going to do in the future. The accident caused pain and suffering for her too, not just for Brady. No matter how much each other were struggling, they were always there for each other.
Brady and Katherine are great characters. Katherine is strong, intelligent, sweet and funny. Her journey with Brady through all the emotional parts of the story were touching and enjoyable to read. Their attraction to each other was intense, even when they were trying to keep their distance. Their love never felt forced, although it happened quite fast. They were the perfect match and I was cheering for them the whole way.
Just like every Lex Martin novel, it puts a smile on your face and you never want the story to end. I read this book in one sitting because I didn’t want to put it down. This story was sweet, emotional and thanks to Lex’s writing, I felt every single emotional along with the characters. This book is now one of my favourites along with the Dearest series. Brady quickly has made his way onto my list of favourite book boyfriends.
